Producing multiple result files from one ShowCase query

Do you ever need to run the same query multiple times for different values? Do you wish you could run the query just once, and have the output automatically split into separate result files? Better yet, do you want the query to run automatically?

ShowCase Enterprise Reporting and its new bursting function enable you to schedule a query to run at a specific time or times, and to generate multiple output files at runtime.

Here’s how to perform the setup once and let Enterprise Reporting do the rest.

In the following example, we create one query for all regional sales, and then schedule the query to create one result file (bursted output) for each region at runtime.

  1. In Query, create a new report (query), and create a break group on the Region column. Add a summary line and blank lines as needed (see Figure 1 below).

  1. Save the query to the ShowCase Server
  2. In a web browser, open your Enterprise Reporting home page
  3. In the Schedule Manager, schedule the report
  4. In Step 1 of the New Scheduled Report Wizard, specify the Schedule Name and other runtime options, and then click Next (see Figure 2 below)

  1. Click Next
  2. Select the Schedule Frequency, and then click Finish. The schedule name is shown in the schedule list.
  3. When the report run completes, navigate to the category where the output is stored. The individual report results are shown in the category. Each result file contains the results for a single region (see Figure 4 below).
