    • Red Hat® Linux® 7.2
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0
  • Server hardware:
    • Your CPU selection should be based on cost, number of interviewers the server needs to support, and potential for growth:
      • SCO OpenServer or Linux: Pentium-class processor running at 200MHz or faster.
      • Sun Solaris: Sun Ultra Series processor or faster
      • HP-UX operating system: HP 9000 server or faster.
    • Console monitor: Monochrome or color
    • Tape backup device: RAID disk drives to back up your data
    • Memory: 20 MB minimum for 50 interviewers. View memory recommendations to support various configurations.
    • Modem: Should be connected to a phone line so that it is accessible by SPSS Support for dial-up assistance.
    • Network adapter and USB: Optional, but strongly recommended
  • Terminal hardware:
    • Terminal servers: Either multi-port internal cards or separate terminal server boxes etherlinked to the UNIX machine. We suggest the latter for greater flexibility.
    • Terminals: Either dumb terminals (for example a Wyse 60 terminal) or PCs with Telnet software.
  • Minimum free disk space: 2 GB with separate partitions for the operating system and users/production.
  • Minimum RAM: 16 MB
  • System administration: A knowledgeable UNIX® system administrator. Your hardware vendor may have names of sites offering training.
  • C compiler user licenses: Needed to compile the sample management system (SMS):
    • The GNU C compiler supplied on the Quancept CATI CD-ROM is recommended for all operating systems
    • Sun UltraSPARC processors: Sun C compiler or the GNU C compiler
    • SCO® OpenServer® 5: OpenServer Development System. Do not order the OpenServer Development Kit, as the compiler contained in the kit is a UnixWare® compiler and will not work with SPSS Inc. software.
