Dimensions™ ASP

Frequently Asked Questions

If your organization wants the freedom to create, program, and field online surveys without having to invest in software licenses or information system infrastructure, then our Dimensions ASP (application service provider) solution for hosting surveys is right for you.

The following questions provide detailed information about Dimensions ASP. For more general information regarding ASP, MSP, or our Service Bureau product, please visit the the SPSS Online Services main home page.

How does SPSS comply with the European Union Data Protection Act?

SPSS maintains an ongoing commitment to the protection of personal data and to ensuring the privacy of those who provide personal information to SPSS. As part of this commitment, SPSS is seeking certification with the U.S. Department of Commerce under the safe harbor framework of the European Union Directive on Data Protection.

SPSS often hosts surveys and collects information on behalf of its clients. As a member of the Council of American Survey Research Organizations (CASRO), SPSS abides by the CASRO Code of Standards and Ethics for Survey Research, which includes extensive provisions for the protection of respondent privacy. In the course of performing services for clients, however, SPSS does not assume ownership of collected information. Rather, SPSS collects and handles this information as prescribed by the client company, which may itself be subject to applicable data protection laws. SPSS will make reasonable efforts to accommodate client needs for adequate levels of data confidentiality and security. These efforts may be specified by prior agreement between SPSS and the client.

How does the Dimensions ASP environment address redundancy and availability?

All of SPSS' online services environments are architected for high availability and redundancy. We use clustered server environments that allow for transparent failover of production activity and greater uptime assurance. The SPSS hosting architecture includes:

Will my data be backed up?

SPSS will back up the customer servers located in its data center, using a tape backup system. Every night, SPSS will perform a backup of each customer's incremental data. Nightly incremental data backup tapes will be copied, and one copy will be kept at the data center for immediate use. The second copy will be sent to a secure off-site data storage facility, where it will be kept for seven days.

Once a week, SPSS will perform a full system backup of each covered data server's data. This backup tape will be mirrored to provide two copies of the weekly full-system backup. One copy will be kept on-site at the data center for two weeks. The second copy will be sent to a secure off-site data storage facility, where it will be kept for four weeks.

Once a month, SPSS will perform a full system backup of each covered data server's data. This backup will be mirrored to provide two copies of the monthly full-system backup. One copy of this backup tape will be kept on-site at the data center for four weeks. The second copy will be sent to a secure off-site data storage facility, where it will be kept for twelve months.

For example, mrInterview™ has flexible and integrated security features. SPSS will be developing a full set of documentation around this new feature. Details of SPSS' standard security documentation are available upon completion and submission of a non-disclosure agreement. We offer SSL access to DimensionNet in our environment. SSL is the Internet protocol used by banks and many e-commerce sites where account numbers or other personal or private information is entered.
