In-database mining

Clementine in-database mining helps you optimize your entire data mining process by making use advantage of your existing hardware, software, and data warehousing investments. Unlike other data mining solutions, Clementine performs critical data preparation, modeling, and model scoring tasks within leading ODBC-compliant databases such as IBM® DB2®, Oracle® Database, and Microsoft® SQL Server™.

Clementine uses a scalable, three-tiered architecture to improve modeling productivity and deployment. The Clementine Client tier passes data mining processes to the Clementine Server. Then Clementine Server analyzes these tasks to determine which ones should be executed within the database. After the database processes those tasks, it passes only the relevant aggregate or summary data to Clementine Server. Since data preprocessing—typically 80-90 percent of your data mining effort—occurs in the database tier, you’ll accelerate modeling, maximize resources, and minimize network traffic.

If you use an external module, such as Web Mining for Clementine®, Clementine Server passes the relevant tasks to that module.

In addition to its rapid in-database modeling capabilities, you gain major advantages from Clementine’s open architecture:

High-speed in-database scoring. Clementine in-database mining scores rule sets and decision-tree models, and loads data mining results back into your database. These scoring capabilities enable high-speed model deployment by using your existing database assets.
Improved incorporation of text, survey, and Web data. Regardless of your operating environment, you can use Clementine to import text, Web, and survey data into your models. Direct access to SPSS' survey research platform, Dimensions™, also enables you to include information about your customers' attitudes, beliefs, and characteristics within your predictive models.
Ease of model deployment. You can quickly deploy Clementine streams, predictive models, and results to existing applications, including all of SPSS' predictive analytics applications, as well as third-party applications.
