Clementine pioneered the use of a visual workflow interface that supports, scales, and accelerates the entire data mining process—from business understanding through data access and preparation to model deployment.
From this interface, you can access and integrate data from textual sources, Web logs, SPSS’ Dimensions™ survey research products, as well as data in virtually any type of database, spreadsheet or flat file—including SPSS for Windows®, SAS®, and Microsoft® Excel® files. This improves your organization’s ability to address complex business problems through data mining.
Because users don’t need to worry about writing code and can instead concentrate on following where their knowledge leads them, you obtain value faster from Clementine. As you work, interactive “streams” visually map the data mining process, allowing you to interact with information at any point in the process and develop models quickly and confidently. Instead of performing technical tasks, you can focus on finding the answers to your business questions. You can also use optional Clementine Application Templates (CATs), which incorporate best practices specific to certain business applications, to obtain results faster.

Clementine offers additional visualization capabilities to guide you to more rapid results. You can conduct “query by mouse” to explore patterns in your data, such as creating new variables from patterns you see on a graph, or to select additional, significant data. Use an advanced visualization engine which gives you control over the appearance of your graphs after they have been created.
Clementine offers a broad range of data mining techniques. You can choose from a number of algorithms for clustering, classification, association, and prediction, as well as algorithms for automated multiple modeling, time-series forecasting, and interactive rule building. These algorithms are organized into a Clementine “base” module and optional additional modules. More information about this is available in SPSS’ Clementine brochure.
Whichever modules you choose, you can build models quickly with Clementine. Then you can test models, explore their behavior, and find the best-performing ones. For example, “meta-modeling” allows you to use the results of one model as input for another.
