Screen Presentation
More than just an aesthetic issue, the computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) screen must present the information the interviewer needs, and must make clear what is expected of the interviewer. The presentation of questions and the ease of use for interviewers can have vital methodological implications.
With Quancept CATI, you can:
- Present only the questions interviewers are meant to ask and answer
- Emphasize certain keywords or phrases by highlighting text
- Adjust the script based on the respondent's gender using text replacement facilities. You can make adjustments for single or multiple responses and even verbatim text from previous answers. This further automates interviews and minimizes script-reading errors.
- Display the answer to a previous question within a subsequent question or within the possible responses to a subsequent question
- "Freeze" at the top of the screen any information deemed useful to the interviewer for the entire interview or for certain parts of it. For example, you can display the name of the survey or information from the sample itself, such as the respondent's name.
- "Freeze" explanatory text or possible responses in a fixed screen area for a repetitive series of questions or a battery of rating scales
- Show the full question text for only the first run of a repetitive series of questions. The rest can be read as, for example, "And how about..."
- "Fix" one or more items within randomized response lists. For example, you may always want to list your product name as the first possible response and randomize the other product names.
- Display potential responses in three columns by default. You can change the display to show potential responses in one to five columns for an entire script or on a per-question basis.
- Prompt the interviewer to scroll up or down the screen to view all potential responses, when necessary
- Suppress invalid responses to a given question
- Prevent interviewers from prompting "don't know," "refused," or "no answer" responses by displaying these types of responses on a screen separate from the response list
- Automatically renumber responses to exclude or include only the answers to a previous question when response lists are automatically updated. If desired, the responses can always maintain the same numbers so that, for example, your interviewers will always choose "The Bahamas" when entering "5," no matter how the order of the list changes.
