Forbes Magazine Ranks SPSS No. 77 Among 200 Best Small Companies in America

For the third time in the company’s history, SPSS Inc. (Nasdaq: SPSS) was ranked as one of the nation’s “200 Best Small Companies” by Forbes magazine. The inclusion of SPSS in this group of successful companies confirms the company’s leadership in providing analytical solutions for organizations to develop more profitable customer relationships.

SPSS placed No. 77 in Forbes 200 Best Small Companies in America, according to the Nov. 1 issue. The article states, “What does it take to be the best? To begin with, solid results – five years of consistent sales and earnings-per-share growth; four consecutive quarters of net income surpassing $1 million.”

The SPSS ranking is based on its average of 31 percent return on equity over the past five years. “This ranking is another milestone for SPSS.” said Jack Noonan, SPSS president and CEO. “What’s even more exciting are the possibilities for the future. Over the last few years, we have seen increased interest our analytical solutions, demonstrated by revenue growth in the 70-90 percent range. This puts SPSS is in the prime position to deliver more growth and value – both to our customers and to our shareholders.”

This is SPSS’ third appearance on the Forbes list, the first in 1997. In addition to the Forbes recognition, SPSS was just named to Working Mother magazine’s 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers. The company also placed No. 16 on the 1999 Softletter 100, which ranks the top 100 personal computer software companies in the United States; and No. 115 in the 1999 Software 500, a ranking of the world’s largest software vendors by Software Magazine.
